How to Choose a Pillow for the Way You Sleep

A pillow should keep your neck in line with the rest of your spine. The right height depends on how you lie, and on how firm the mattress already is. A soft mattress lets the shoulder sink, so you need less pillow. A firm mattress needs a bit more.

By sleep position

  • Side sleeping. The gap between your ear and the mattress is the widest. A higher pillow, or a contour shape, fills it. The Neck O Guard is a 100% memory-foam contour pillow with raised edges. The Memo Guard is a straight memory-foam pillow, 60 x 40 x 12 cm.
  • Back sleeping. A medium pillow is usually enough. Too high pushes the chin toward the chest. Memo Guard and the softer fibre pillows both work here.
  • Stomach sleeping. Use a low pillow, or none. A high pillow bends the neck back.

Fill and cover

The 5 Star is a microfiber pillow with a cotton cover. It is the hotel-style soft option and it can be machine washed. Miami Gold is a plush everyday pillow. Memory foam (Memo Guard and Neck O Guard) holds its shape and does not need fluffing. Fibre pillows feel lighter and are simpler to wash.
